More Foot Conditions Seen In Our Office

B elow you will find a list with information on specialties we see often.  They include:

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the fascia, which is the band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. This condition happens because the surfaces you walk on every day are very hard and they create maximum stretching of the plantar fascia ligament. With this condition, you can have extreme pain in the heel and arches. Symptoms include pain with walking, pain first your first step in the morning, and stepping down and having extreme pain. You may also experience pain after you have been sitting for a while and then get up to move. Treatment includes icing, supportive footwear for arch of the foot, anti-inflammatories, strappings and inserts or custom orthotics.

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails are when the corners of the nails, or sides, dig into the soft tissue of the toe. It is crucial to get an ingrown toenail treated because if the toenail continues to break the skin it can cause infection to the area. Symptoms include pain, swelling, redness and prominent skin tissue. Treatment includes cutting and doing what’s called a slant back, or cutting the nail out of the skin.

Juvenile Apophysitis

Juvenile apophysitis, also known as Sever’s disease, is a common heel injury among children. This condition happens to children who perform physical activities, such as sports. Symptoms include a lot of pain in the heel and the arch area. Treatment includes stretching, range of motion exercises, and sometimes anti-inflammatory medication. Sometimes physical therapy is needed, a strapping or orthotic.
